OUR FOCUS

Crisis Prevention

and Recovery

Speed, effectiveness and predictability

Our work in crisis prevention and recovery focuses on increasing the resilience of communities to natural and man-made disasters, mitigating their impact, and preventing conflict through rehabilitation and early recovery. We have implemented and monitored emergency situations and programmes on drought, flood and earthquake relief assistance, facilitated early recovery coordination, provided relief and rehabilitation for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and the communities in crisis affected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Newly Merged District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa [formerly Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA)].

Our intervention

UNDP Pakistan works to support communities as they recover from displacement, insecurity and natural disaster and the burden of hosting thousands of temporarily displaced families and refugees. Recognising the critical role of young people in building secure societies led to growing focus on empowerment through education, recreation, skills development and employability support.

A green future

FOR A REMOTE VILLAGE IN KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA

“My life has changed completely! By next year I hope to expand this business even further” said Haji Asmatullah happily. “The support provided by the Sustainable Land Management Programme to Combat Desertification in Pakistan has turned our area green. We hope this project will also contribute towards afforestation in the area so that we can enjoy the better climate.”
