Individual Consultancy-National Expert on for Bio Engineering

Duties and Responsibilities: Lack of both documentation and demonstration on GLOF and Climate Change mitigation measures through  bio-engineering structures, integrated watershed management and land use planning in the GLOF vulnerable valleys of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral are few risk reduction and mitigation gaps that constraints the community preparedness and resilience to respond to climate-induced pressures in the area. The gap can be minimized through addressing the above mentioned links. As a result, the GLOF vulnerable communities and disaster management authorities will be able of better management and understanding to address the Climate Change-induced disasters including GLOF catastrophe in Pakistan.

The Pakistan’s GLOF Project seeks services of an Individual National Expert for conducting the task of:

Conduct a study to identify land slide and slope stabilization problems in Bagrot and Bindo Gol valleys and suggest control measures. Identify bio-engineering structures for Bagrot valley in Gilgit and Bindo Gol valley in Chitral. Develop an Integrated Watershed Management Plan (IWMP) inclusive of Land Use Plans (LUP) for both the mentioned valleys. Demonstrate Bio-engineering structures and slope stabilization activities for the both valleys using dry zone reforestation techniques.

Period of Assignment/Services: Five months from the signing of the contract.

Pakistan's One UN Programme (OP I) was signed on 4 February 2009 in the presence of the UN Secretary General and the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Initially for a two-year period from 2009 to 2010, OP I was extended until December 2012 by mutual agreement of the Government of Pakistan and the UN.
