ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is lagging behind in 24 of 34 indicators of the eight millennium development goals with the deadline of MDGs of 2015 set by the United Nations fast approaching.
This is revealed in the ‘Pakistan’s MDGs Report 2013’ launched by the Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal and UN Assistant Secretary General/UNDP’s Regional Director for Asia and Pacific Haoliang Xu on Wednesday. The missed indicators were mainly thanks to the neglected social sector.
The report acknowledges the figure of 17.2 percent of population living below the poverty line during 2007-08 and 12.4 percent in 2010-11. It notes that a technical committee was working on to calculate the latest figure.
