Consulting or Insulting?

02 Jun 2014

By the end of this month, the government would have finalised three important decisions that will affect the lives of 200 million plus this year, and the many years beyond. And in all these decisions, the word ‘consultative’ has or will likely feature as the most important highlight of the process. However, not all is what may seem.

The earliest of these decisions would perhaps be the fiscal budget 2014-5, where the FBR has an all important role. Each year, before the budget, the tax department invites proposal from business chambers and associations. This year is no different. The FBR invited proposals from business chambers and associations, and as a follow up, held two consultative meetings with the stakeholders.
